Interconnection of a Wind Power Plant in Phocis

Requirements
As part of the development of a wind power plant in the Phocis area, with a total capacity of approximately 33 MW, the client is exploring a method to connect the plant to the Hellenic Electricity Transmission System (HETS). The connection involves the development and interconnection of a new substation near two existing energized transmission lines, with parallel routing between them.

Challenges
The limited available land for development, combined with the geologically challenging terrain characterizing the wider area, posed significant challenges that shaped the overall design of the project. Additionally, the proximity to existing transmission lines was an equally decisive factor for the project’s spatial planning and its connection to the HETS.
Method of project completion
Specialized design of the substation layout, with optimal siting of the substation and the routing of the high-voltage overhead lines, aiming to minimize required interventions and reduce the construction schedule. Critical licensing and constructability issues were considered from the preliminary study stage.

- Preliminary Suitability Studies
The client received the overall design of the interconnection works with the HETS, which, in addition to its technical soundness ensuring immediate approval by the competent authorities, stands out for its simplicity. This simplicity facilitates project construction, allows multiple tasks to be carried out simultaneously, and ultimately helps to reduce risk.
